Black Box Communicates Its Strategy at GENBAND Perspectives14

June 11, 2014

Black Box, which is at the GENBAND Perspectives14 event this week in Orlando, is a large global telecom solutions provider assisting GENBAND in bringing its unified communications solutions to the U.S. Department of Defense and offering GENBAND Web services to the small business market.

A GENBAND Platinum partner, Black Box is a communications systems integrator and private network builder with $1 billion in annual revenue, said Jeff Murray, senior vice president and general manager.

“GENBAND Perspectives is a great event,” said Murray. “I’m very impressed with the vision provided by Dave Walsh.” Walsh, CEO of GENBAND, gave a keynote yesterday about the fast pace of change and how service providers and their customers need to respond to it by accelerating their time to market and ability to change with fast-changing market requirements.

“To me the killer app that makes us think a little differently about WebRTC is the SAP play,” he added.

As for Black Box, its strategy is to move into software-defined networking. The company is working on controllers and an initiative to help make network elements more aware, said Murray. It’s also involved in helping applications GENBAND NUViA work with OpenFlow protocols regardless of version, he said. Data center acceleration is another area of focus for Black Box, Murray added.

Murray also noted that Black Box is a strong player in the government space, and uses the experience gained in that arena – which tends to have stringent requirements – as a lab environment of sorts for new offerings it can then expand to business customers.

In other news from Black Box today, the expanded its portfolio of storage and charging solutions for mobile devices with a new configurable and secure stackable locker system. These cabinets are designed to accommodate standard 19-inch rack IT equipment in addition to all sizes of tablets and other mobile devices.
