Tata Communications Updates Its Open and Interoperable jamvee UC Platform

June 19, 2014

When it comes to unified communications (UC) solutions, having the greatest number of collaboration features in the simplest and most concise platform is a major asset. Tata Communications hits on all of those features with the updated version of its open jamvee UC platform, which runs on the company’s tier 1 network.

jamvee unites client software with any device through a single platform, providing secure and agnostic support for audio, video, messaging and content sharing. Since the platform was built for interoperability, it supports existing enterprise apps and clients as well as desktop and mobile devices for access.

The platform is hosted by Tata and delivered as a service, ensuring high levels of security and quality. It uses open APIs like WebRTC to support real-time collaboration and communication and supports traditional video conferencing and telepresence solutions. jamvee also offers a plug-in that supports non-WebRTC native browsers, and the platform is completely customizable in support of third-party development.

IM and presence are supported through SIP and XMPP, enabling access to a federated meeting room through a single connection. An always-on collaborative workspace that enables virtual teams to meet, show video and collaborate on documents in real time is another feature, which was developed in tandem with Tata partners Acano and Synergy SKY.

Acano specializes in virtual meeting rooms, which the company describes as “coSpaces” that enable disparate audio, video and web technologies to interoperate. Synergy SKY’s multi-tenant software platform is geared toward service providers, enabling them to easily offer UC and video conferencing as a service.

John Hayduk, president and CTO of Tata, describes the platform as a customizable foundation for UC, enabling companies to implement and develop UC solutions on their own terms.

"jamvee combines interoperability and ease of use with the scale and resilience of Tata Communications' tier 1 network,” added O.J. Winge, CEO of Acano. “Co-workers, suppliers and customers at organizations around the globe will benefit from the collaboration opportunities now possible with jamvee.”
