GENBAND, Wind River Demo Integrated vSBC, NFV Server Solution

August 13, 2015

Session border controllers are one of the first targets for telecommunications equipment suppliers as they work to virtualize network functions. GENBAND already offers a virtualized version of its SBC solutions. Today the company revealed it has expanded its efforts on that front by integrating this function with Wind River’s Titanium Server NFV infrastructure platform. The companies are demonstrating the integrated solution next week at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco.

The GENBAND vSBC offers security at network interconnection points, allows networks to more easily scale, and supports deployments that are a combination of NFV and traditional elements. The Wind River Titanium solution is a server that supports the high-level performance, reliability, and security required in such virtualized network functions-based applications as cloud-RAN, content delivery systems, evolved packet core, gateways, and packet inspection.

“In order to accelerate their NFV deployment and reduce schedule risk, service providers are looking for validated, market-ready end-to-end NFV solutions. In collaboration with our ecosystem partners, we are addressing several of the industry’s toughest NFV challenges, such as management and orchestration, security, and testing,” said Charlie Ashton, senior director of business development for networking solutions at Wind River.

Ashton made this comment earlier in the year, when Wind River announced an array of other NFV- and SDN-focused partnerships. The list of partners revealed at that time included one with China Mobile to create a virtualized cloud radio access network solution and small cell gateway; and vendor ecosystem relationships with Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., ConteXtream, Cyan, Intel Security, Ixia, Qosmos, and Spirent.
