September 18, 2015

Agora Lab, Inc. is a communications as a service (CaaS) provider that, on a worldwide basis, delivers quality-of-experience voice and video communications across devices and networks. Agora enables software applications to support as many as 2,000 users on a single call. The company that was founded in 2014 is headquartered in Palo Alto, CA.

Recently, the company announced the conclusion of a Series B funding round in which it netted $20 million. Capital venture firms which participated included Morningside, SIG, GGV Capital, ShunWei, and IDG.

Agora is a company that sees itself as providing the building blocks developers need to add high definition voice and video communication to any mobile or PC app. This is accomplished through a simple yet powerful SDK. Agora was founded by Tony Zhao, who is also the CEO and Agora’s core team of members and comes from leading technology companies in the related field such as YY, Intel and DTS.

Zhao made the following remarks concerning the funding round, “We are pleased that our original investors continue to support Agora with a substantial Series B round of venture capital funding. Agora meets the needs of tomorrow's applications to deliver richer communications between people around the world from their mobile devices."

He is referring to the fact that Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) is transforming many industries by enabling mobile and web users to make voice calls, video chats, share screens and exchange files. This all takes place using a globally distributed cloud infrastructure and advanced algorithms to preserve premium communications quality across mobile and other devices regardless of network conditions.

Earlier this week, Systemwide Media, PKE Consulting and Agora Lab announced that they will be joining TMC’s Real Time Web Solutions Conference in Beijing, China, which will run November 10 and11, 2015.

Phil Edholm of PKE Consulting LLC said, “WebRTC deployments are growing and companies are stepping up to provide innovative products and services to support this trend. We are excited to announce the Real Time Web Solutions Conference in China and we look forward to learning from global RTC leaders.”
