Real Time Communications Week in Review: Kandy, GENBAND, Agora Lab

September 19, 2015

Real time communications are quickly becoming an important element for businesses and users across the globe. In the healthcare vertical, real time communications are making it possible for doctors and patients to have better, easier care than ever before.

Before we jump into news headlines related to that front, the big headline this week was the one year milestone celebration of Kandy, GENBAND’s real time communications platform-as-a-service offering.

The Kandy platform now has more than 15 million users and Kandy.io has over 1,500 accounts, 50 ecosystems partners and innovative use cases that are constantly being added.

Jumping back into the healthcare topic, Kandy also made headlines this week with the announcement that Skywriter MD would be using Kandy to improve how physicians gain access to virtual EHR services.

The real time capabilities reduce the amount of time doctors spend on day to day paperwork so they have more time to spend with their patients.

A special feature from TMC’s Doug Mohney this week looks at the latest innovations in healthcare and how real time communications are helping to move things along and make them better and faster.

Mohney notes that we'll be seeing many more solutions integrating data-driven healthcare that has a personal touch and is delivered by real time communications in the future.

Telemedicine is also important in senior living communities. This week, La Vida Real, a luxury retirement community in Rancho San Diego announced it is adding the ability for residents to have high-end medical care from home. The telemedicine capabilities will make it possible for a technician at the community to take appropriate vital sign measurements and relay results to a physician offsite.

Finally, Agora Lab, a provider of CaaS solutions, announced that it has netted $20 million in Series B funding.

Earlier this week, Systemwide Media, PKE Consulting and Agora Lab announced that they will be joining TMC’s Real Time Web Solutions Conference in Beijing, China, which will run November 10 and11, 2015.

That’s all for this week. Be sure to check back for all the latest Real Time Communications news as it happens. Until next week…
