Inaugural QuEST Forum Annual Sustainability Award Goes to GENBAND

October 12, 2015

The QuEST Forum, a global organization dedicated to quality and sustainability in the ICT community, just announced that the inaugural QuEST Forum Annual Sustainability "Best Overall Performance" Award will go to GENBAND.

The award was created to highlight the efforts of companies such as GENBAND to create a more sustainable organization. Although most people assume the ICT sector doesn’t have a large carbon footprint, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), US data centers consumed an estimated 91 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2013, and that number is set to increase to 140 billion kilowatt-hours by 2020.

GENBAND has a Network Transformation initiative to lower its environmental impact in energy consumption and real estate. As the company stated, the communications industry is one of the more energy-intensive sectors in the world. Along with the reduction of emissions, the initiative has a funding model designed to help communications service providers (CSPs) migrate from their legacy technologies.

By adopting next-generation networks, these companies lower their carbon footprint while continuing to provide real time communications solutions.

"We continue to embed sustainability into GENBAND's DNA. This is the result of a holistic, company-wide process that required the support and effort of almost every group. I'm extremely proud of the team for the work accomplished and delighted that we've been recognized as a leader among our peers," said Darrin Whitney, GENBAND's Chief Information and Sustainability Officer.

GENBAND has a global presence in 80 countries supplying real-time communications software solutions. Service providers, enterprises, independent software vendors, systems integrators and developers use its technology. By encouraging its partners and customers to adopt the same sustainable initiative it has created, the company’s impact is global.

For that effort it was awarded with the Silver Status in BT Group PLC's Better Future Supplier Forum, which was created to help its customers reduce their carbon emissions by three times the end-to-end impact of its own business.

"We were impressed by the across-the-board depth and quality of the effort GENBAND put forth," said Fraser Pajak, CEO of QuEST Forum. "'Best Overall Performance' is an exceptional achievement especially considering the quality of the competition. We look forward to GENBAND's ongoing innovation and drive as a corporate sustainability leader."

As 190 countries get ready to descend in France for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference from November 30 to December 11, the world awaits tangible results that can be implemented to improve the environment we all live in. For its part, GENBAND is making the necessary efforts to make its company and its partners more responsible.
